This is the Leviathan, a £400 million, 111 metre superyacht built by Oceanco and launched this year. It features a beam of 17.8 metres, a draft of 4.8 metres and is designed with a diesel-electric propulsion system paired with a large battery bank, allowing for near-silent cruising and reduced environmental impact.
The hull and superstructure combine steel and aluminium, while low-maintenance materials such as composite decks instead of teak, full-height glass bulkheads, honed stone and wool carpets provide a high level of luxury without constant upkeep. Onboard, Leviathan accommodates up to 26 guests across 11 cabins and is supported by a crew of 37 to ensure smooth operation and exceptional service. The yacht offers generous guest areas, large social decks and spaces designed for comfort and refinement at sea.
Its new owner, a man responsible for delivering joy and gifts each year. No, not Santa Claus. Gabe Newell. Though in fairness, both men are known for long beards, impossible schedules, and keeping the world waiting for something that may never arrive.
Gabe Newell is best known as the co-founder of Valve, the company behind Steam, a digital marketplace centred on PC gaming. Steam transformed the way people buy and play games, keeping classic titles alive while supporting new releases from studios of every size. Gabe Newell did not merely buy a superyacht, he bought the company that built the superyacht. Oceanco, a top-tier shipyard, was acquired by Newell in August 2025, the corporate equivalent of walking into a bakery and saying, “I’ll take that cake, the oven and the entire building.” And for once, the cake isn’t a lie.

Leviathan features specialised amenities that reflect its owner’s interests in technology and marine science. The yacht includes a dedicated dive centre, laboratory and 3D printing workshop, all designed to support extended research missions and remote exploration. It also houses an onboard hospital and a submarine garage capable of deploying submersibles, linking directly with Newell’s marine research company, Inkfish.
A full-height glass panel inside the main staircase is engraved with the names of more than two thousand craftsmen, engineers and crew who contributed to the build, creating a rare acknowledgement of the people behind a project of this scale. For leisure, there is a gaming lounge equipped with 15 high-end PCs and two racing simulators. In combining luxury with purpose-built functionality and a recognition of those who shaped it, Leviathan stands as a vessel not just for cruising the world but for exploring it.
